Life Care Center of Hendersonville, North Carolina, has a fun Valentine’s Day tradition – crowning a Valentine’s king and queen.
For the past 14 years, associates, as well as family members and visitors, have voted on this Valentine’s court, putting their nominations in by secret ballot. Then, on February 14, the votes are tallied, and the new king and queen receive crowns and flowers.
For 2019, the winners were Jerry Melton as king and Etta Lewis as queen.
“I never expected this,” said Melton. “Wow – you all surprised me. Everyone is so kind.”
“Thank you all so much,” said Lewis. “I’m the queen of the whole place.”
Dorothy Jeffery, activity director, added, “There is no better feeling than watching the residents’ faces glow for the crowning and the whole event in itself.”
