Life Care Center of Hendersonville, North Carolina, recently won the Business Development Award of Excellence for parent company Life Care Centers of America’s Eastern Division.

On Jan. 9, 2019, the Eastern Division held a banquet at the company headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, honoring one skilled nursing and rehab facility in each of its four regions. Life Care Center of Hendersonville won for the Blue Ridge Region, as well as clinching the overall award.

The facility was nominated for its Lighthouse marketing strategy. The marketing team redesigned the center’s brochures and other collateral to focus on the image of a lighthouse, lighting the way to safety. The lighthouse imagery was also chosen in homage to the story of Kate Walker, the wife of a lighthouse keeper in New England, who was afraid of water. When her husband passed away of pneumonia, Walker overcame her fear to tend to the lighthouse herself and even rowed out to assist distressed vessels.

In addition to the redesign, Life Care Center of Hendersonville associates shared Walker’s story with others and distributed lighthouse-shaped stress balls at events.

“It was an honor to be chosen and very touching to be honored by Mr. Beecher Hunter [Life Care president] at the awards banquet,” said Kathy Carver, business development director at the facility. “The lighthouse holds a special place in my heart. We want to be the shining light for our community. Our motto continues to be, ‘Mind the light. There are people to be saved.’”
